Members


The following scholars are members of NOOR TAKAFUL’S Sharia’a Board:


Sheikh Dr. Mohamed Ali Elgari – Chairman


An active member of the International Fiqh Academy, he serves as an expert at the Islamic Jurisprudence Academies of the Organization of Islamic Countries and the Islamic World League.


Dr. Elgari graduated from the University of California with a Ph.D. in Economics, and currently serves as a Professor of Islamic Economics and Director of Islamic Economics Research at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. He is also a member of Sharia’a Boards on many Islamic Banks and Takaful Companies across the Middle East, Asia and North America.


Dr. Abdul Sattar Abu Ghuddah – Member


A member of the Islamic Fiqh Academy, Jeddah and the Accounting and Auditing Standards Boards of Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), he also served on the Fatwa Board of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs in Kuwait.


Dr. Abu Ghuddah formerly taught Fiqh and Islamic studies at the Faculty of Law and Sharia’a at Kuwait University. He earned a Ph.D. in Sharia’a and Comparative Fiqh and a M.A. in Sharia’a and Hadith from Al-Azhar University, and B.A. degrees in Islamic Sharia’a and in Law from Damascus University.


Dr. Mohammed Daud Bakar – Member


Dr. Bakar is a member of the Central Shariah Advisory Council of the Central Bank of Malaysia and Securities Commission of Malaysia, and is also an active member of the Sharia’a Board of the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI).


He also serves as an Associate Professor in Islamic Law and the Deputy Rector, Student Affairs and Discipline, at the International Islamic University in Malaysia. He holds a Ph.D. from University of St. Andrews, Bachelor of Jurisprudence at University of Malaya and a Bachelors degree in Sharia’a from the University of Kuwait.


Dr. Mohammed Al Olama - Member


Dr. Olama has a distinguished academic background, rich of knowledge and wisdom. He is currently the co-professor and member of the Board of Studies in Comparative Fiqh and Islamic Commercial Law. He is an integral part of various seminars and conferences held locally, regionally and internationally. He has chaired many conferences in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Cairo, Malaysia and Jordan, besides the scientific and management committees within and outside UAE. Dr. Olama is the author of a book, 1st edition published by Dar Al-Bashair, Damascus under the titled: “The rules of man’s permission in Islamic Fiqh”. He has conducted extensive research on some interesting topics such as “Sharia’a perspective towards the abortion of malformed babies” and ‘Investing the Islamic waqf resources in Islamic Fiqh”.


In addition to these, some incredible achievements in media by Dr. Olama has also came into existence. He has extended his expertise and supervision to many websites such as ‘Sharia’a and Law magazine’, the website for ‘Sharia’a and Law college conferences’, and daily publications like ‘Stock markets, horizons and challenges’. Beside his valuable contribution by sharing his views and expertise in media on TV and radio programs along with some valuable articles published in local and regional magazines. Though there’s much more to mention about Dr. Olama’s achievements and knowledge, it is worth concluding with the fact that he holds a Bachelors degree in Sharia’a from the most prestigious Sharia’a University at Madina - KSA, as well as a Masters and PHD degree in Fiqh from Umm-ul-Qura Univertisity in KSA.
